Intellectual Property: IP in the transfer context

Research often leads to socially and commercially valuable innovations. If the innovation contains protectable and protectable intellectual property (IP), it is important and necessary to include all parties involved at an early stage and to cover all eventualities.

IP as the basis for spin-offs

As far as reasonable and possible, the university tries to protect relevant intellectual property (IP) - for example inventions - by means of property rights. On the basis of these IPs, all employees of the University of Stuttgart have the opportunity to establish a company.

Support from the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Department of Department 1 (Research and Transfer)

The staff of the department provides support in the identification and registration of IP rights, also accompany the founding process and make suitable agreements with the founders on the use of the IP.

Support from TRACES, the transfer center of the university

The Intellectual Property (IP) Scouting unit focuses on the early identification of attractive transferable research results (inventions, software, know-how and services) and their potential suitability for founding a company. Here, scientists, employees and students receive advice and support in dealing with transfer-relevant IP and the start-up process.
